AIMING TO MAKE THE WOOD-FURNISHING SUPPLY CHAIN A GREEN INDUSTRY PIONEER

FLA Plus is the path to sustainability of FederlegnoArredo, the Italian Federation that represents the wood-furnishing sector industries in all parts of the supply chain, from raw material to finished product, including playing an active part in the organisation of the sector’s leading Italian trade fair, the Salone del Mobile.

FederlegnoArredo’s path towards an increasingly sustainable supply chain brings together operational and cultural approaches to guide the ecological transition of companies. Aiming to make the wood-furnishing supply chain a green industry pioneer and a recognised guide in the field of sustainability, the Federation is increasingly active in acknowledging and bringing ESG issues into discussions with companies.
The launch of FLA Plus has seen the activation of several projects dedicated to the theme of sustainability, while numerous services for companies have been developed, and have subsequently been digitised and organised into an innovative digital platform of corporate tools.

With the support of the Symbola Foundation, research mapping the approach of member companies to a number of sustainability-related issues was carried out, by means of a survey capable of monitoring the progress of companies in this regard, conducted first in 2021 and then in 2023. With the support of the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, the Decalogue – a set of ten values that summarise the principles that represent sustainability according to FederlegnoArredo and its members – was put together as a guide geared to inspiring and indicating the right direction in which to proceed.

The FLA Plus site has been devised as a useful tool for staying informed about ESG issues in the Italian wood-furnishing supply chain and finding out about the Federation’s sustainability-related projects. The digital services, available to member companies only, have been designed to support them in both their strategic and their routine activities, with self-assessment, advice and governance support tools.  To provide companies with adequate tools to tackle the challenges of ecological transition, these two paths have thus been integrated into a single structured digital ecosystem.

 

The services FederlegnoArredo offers to its member companies are as follows:

• Wood Exchange: an experimental online market for the sale and purchase of roundwood and wood-based products;
• Materials Library: an up-to-date database of sustainable and innovative materials, created in collaboration with Materially;
• TECLA: the tool for measuring the Circular Economy of the Wood-Furnishing Supply Chain, created in collaboration with Manifaktura;
• Survey: the periodic survey with which FLA monitors the sustainability goals of its member companies, carried out in collaboration with the Symbola Foundation;
• Study Centre: for the consultation of data, research, balance sheet indices and foreign market trends;
• Certifications Portal: for information on technical export conformity measures;
• Customs Desk: for information on export procedures;
• Finance: for advice and assistance on subsidised financial instruments and corporate finance;
• Academy: a wide range of training courses covered by the FLA Academy and Architects’ Academy;
• Intellectual Property: resources and advice for the protection of industrial and intellectual property rights;
• Bosco del Design/Design Grove: a FLA Plus project for taking an active part in reforestation programmes;
• Library: for consulting all the available educational content;
• Glossary: for technical terms and those most commonly used within the sector, translated into seven different languages.
